door to burgle

SUBVERSION of the rules of entry might be encouraged by a building component such as a flimsy door or an open window.

‘Door to Burgle’ invites its user to act as if burgling the door. The keyhole is positioned only on the inside of the door. When approaching the door from outside, the user has to reach through the letterbox with the entire length of his or her arm, resulting in acting as if breaking into the house.

The stop-frame film documents some of the many possibilities of breaking and entering the door offers, ending up with a ‘burgle’.

‘‘the logic gives way to reveal a secret… It is this “swinging both ways” which must be repressed at all costs’’
